Summary

Many of you who have read our books know that Clay and I are very relationship-based in our approach to children. As we looked to Christ for His model in how He reached the hearts of his disciples, so we wanted to develop a close and deep with ours. Yet, I think because every parent wants to do everything right, they often become susceptible to whatever parenting book they get their hands on first, seeking to find a formula for disciplining children.

0:37.4	Hello my friends, I hope you're having a great day today. This is Memorial Day and Clay and I are just
0:44.0	having our normal day. There's something about not being able to get together with some of our
0:50.2	friends and also not having our kids here that just makes today a time to be able to get a lot
0:55.2	of things done to prepare for some of our children who are coming home, which we're very excited about.
1:00.8	But I wanted to tell you a little bit about what we're doing today and I might be dividing this into two
1:08.2	different segments if I can get enough done. But I have a very special guest today and it is my husband Clay.
1:16.2	Hey, hello everybody. Clay is kind of a reticent podcaster. He's the most amazing thinker in the world.
1:23.1	As you all know, you've benefited deeply from his writing. And so he has so much in his plate that
1:30.2	I'm just very grateful to be able to do this today. So this is how we're celebrating Memorial Day. We're
1:35.7	memorializing our parenting. But I've been getting a lot of letters over many years from people who
1:45.2	want to know what is the formula for disciplining and training your children? How do you do it? And of course,
1:53.9	when you get into that, we just would love to make it easy. We would like to be able to think we're
2:00.1	doing the right thing. And of course, our wonderful children afford us at many points because they each
2:07.5	come with a unique personality. Some of them are extroverts, some are introverts. And so I thought
2:14.8	it would be worthwhile just kind of telling you today the journey that we took in terms of learning
2:22.2	how to parent and why we are very passionate about the conclusions that God brought us to. And in
2:28.8	spite of the fact that we were not perfect parents, no parents are perfect, no children are perfect.
2:35.1	We really see a consistency in the hearts of our children that they were willing to respond overall
