Summary
When Chuck and Joy Hanson set out to buy a quiet country property in Iowa, they never expected to end up as innkeepers to the dead. What they found instead was the Mason House Inn — a historic riverfront hotel built in 1846 for weary steamboat travelers, and one of the most haunted places in the Midwest.
From the moment they moved in, the Hansons realized their new home came with some long-term guests — including an elderly woman’s ghost who greeted them soon after arrival. But she wasn’t alone. Over the years, they’ve encountered hundreds of spirits, from mischievous children to Civil War soldiers to travelers who simply never checked out.
In this spine-tingling episode of The Grave Talks, Chuck and Joy share what it’s like to live, work, and sleep among the dead, and how they’ve come to see their spectral housemates not as intruders, but as part of the family. This is Part Two of our conversation.
