Summary

Gregg Renfrew has been an entrepreneur practically all her life… She started her own business cleaning summer homes when she was in college at the University of Vermont, she founded The Wedding List soon after she graduated (and later sold it to Martha Stewart!), and eventually she founded her current business, Beautycounter, which will be familiar to most of our listeners as a company that transformed the way we think about the ingredients we slather onto our skin. Tune in to Life Lessons for her wise words on collaboration, knowing when to cut your losses, and explain what compelled her interest in natural, nontoxic products.

So let's start at the beginning. What did you study in school and what did you think

1:33.2

you were going to be when you grew up? I studied at the University of Vermont and I studied

1:39.5

English as my major and I did that because I wanted a strong command of the English language.

1:45.3

I thought it was interesting. I also loved to read. I did then, I do now. And then I was

1:49.7

an art history major, a minor, which I think I practically failed, but I do like art.

1:54.9

I guess I don't know much about it, but it was a fun thing to minor in.

1:58.0

So your entrepreneurial journey started quite early. I read that you started a house-cleaning

business when you were still in college to help pay for study abroad. Can you tell me
