We were in Iguazu Falls, one of the most amazing natural wonders of this world, and the kids were absolutely melting down.

And I remember sitting there telling them, why are you complaining? Why are you crying? Why are you frustrated? Why are you sitting

there not wanting to walk? This is one of the best places on the earth. Can't you just

understand how lucky you are to be one of the few people in this world who are going to get to see this majestic natural wonder of the world?

And I remember saying that to them, And all they kept saying back to me was,

Daddy, when are we going back to the gift shop so I can buy a stuffed two can?

And I was getting more and more frustrated.

But the more I kept harping on this idea of why you frustrated,

how can you be frustrated, can't you just understand how incredible this is?

The worse it was getting, until I finally stepped back and realized I had to listen to an adage as old as time and that was

Put myself in their shoes.

They're four and six years old.

Of course, their brains are having a really hard time

comprehending that this incredible thing

that they're seeing is one of a kind,

and they might never see it again.

And of course their brains

are going back to that incredible, really cool, colorful

stuffed two can in the gift shop. And so as soon as I put myself in their shoes

and stop trying to, you know, get convinced them

at why their behavior shouldn't be happening,

I was able to realize that it was my behavior that was actually wrong and that I had to listen to them and that I had to start practicing patience for them and what they wanted out of this trip as well.
