Welcome to Karen Hunter is awesome. I'm Karen Hunter and this is the year that I am really focused on being a better human being. I am challenging myself in ways that I

didn't before. I'm saying yes to things that I would never say yes to. I am stretching myself,

still uncomfortable doing a lot of things, but I'm doing them anyway. And I recently had Amber Cabral on my team. She hosts a podcast called Humaning Well

with Amber Cabral, which you can find on the Women's Empowerment Network right here. And her

whole brand is about being better humans. And I love that, which is why I invited her to be a

part of this journey with me on the Women's Empowerment Network.

But she said something to me.

I recently received an honorary doctorate from Chicago State University.

And it was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

And I made a conscious decision that if I was going to show up for this because I was reluctant at first

that I was going to bask in it I was going to lean in I was going to enjoy every moment of it

because I earned it and I deserve it. It's something I had to say to myself and Amber said something

to me when I was sharing first of of all, my love of Chicago.

She said, whether you know it or not, we see you. We see you. Whether you see us seeing you.

And I came across this clip from Chuck Swindall, S-W-I-N-D-O-L. He's a pastor. I remember watching him from time to time. I had my round of evangelicals, before they were called evangelicals, Cuffalo and Joyce Meyer and Charles Stanley. I would watch Frederick K. Price on Sundays. Like, I really enjoyed watching people who knew the Bible. It was something that I did frequently. and Chuck Wendall was in rotation at some point. He's now 91 years old, 91 at the time of this recording,

and he was asked what really matters about life. And everything he said resonated with me.

It is where I am right now, and I absolutely agree. And when Amber said,

you know, we see you, even if you don't see us seeing you, we see you anyway, I was okay with that.

It made me pause because if you focus too much on what people's opinions are, if you focus at

all, actually, you should never live your life based on what other people see. Now,

there's feedback, of course. If you're being a horrible person, enough people tell you're

being horrible, you should listen and change, make the changes accordingly. Or if people are avoiding
