Today we discuss the other side of death.

Loss. loss happens to us in every moment of experience.

So if I asked you what happened yesterday, it's lost.

If I asked you what happened to five minutes ago, it's lost. What happened to five minutes ago it's lost what happened to your childhood it's gone it doesn't exist what happens to my words by the time you hear them they don't exist.

So loss is actually a way to have new experiences.

Otherwise, you'd be a biological robot,

recycling the same experience forever.

And I think that would be very boring.

So it is loss that makes opportunity possible.

Now of course people do talk about the loss of their parents, of a sibling, of a loved

one and that feels very very, very hurtful or we feel very damaged when we experience that.

The Buddha was asked about that.

Mother went to the Buddha and she had lost her son, which is obviously a big tragedy.

And the Buddha told this woman to go to every house in her neighborhood and ask the first person that opened the door if they had suffered a grievous loss

and that made them feel the way she was feeling.

And the Buddha said, find me one exception. and she tried very hard but came back with no example of somebody

who had not had a painful loss.

The only reason why we feel very damaged

when we experience a painful loss

is because you think you own them or somehow they belong to you.

They don't belong to you, they are part of you,
