This first email is from YouTube member and longtime middle-tier patron Lauren from Olympia.

She sent me an article from ProPublica about a new law in Utah that is cracking down on life coaches who are offering

therapy without a license because I often will talk about this.

Sometimes people send me stuff like this, but I was really happy to read this article in ProPublica.

So thank you, Lauren, from Olympia, Washington, the capital of the Evergreen State,

for sending me this article.

It makes me extremely happy, but also not so happy because of something I'll get to. So I'm just going to summarize what it's

saying here. The article in ProPublica written by Jessica Shreifels from the Salt Lake Tribune,

published March 2025. She writes,

Some therapists who lose their licenses transition to the unregulated life of the coaching industry,

which was discovered by, I'm just paraphrasing, but this was an investigation by the Salt Lake Tribune and ProPublica. And I'm just paraphrasing, but this was an investigation by the Salt Lake Tribune and ProPublica.

And I'm wondering if this is a bigger problem in Utah in particular, or and or if the Ruby Frankie, Jody Hildebrandt scandal and others, I actually want to do another episode similar to the Jody Hildebrandt, scandal, and others. I actually want to do another episode similar to

of therapists who transition into coaching or coaches that aren't therapists who are very much operating in mental health.

So there's a new law in Utah that makes it clear that only licensed therapist can provide

mental health treatment, which for some of you, you might think, wasn't that already a law?

Well, to some extent, yeah, but also these laws sometimes need clarification. When you actually

read the law, particularly as it pertains to areas that you might know, things about, like when I read

the laws pertaining to

psychotherapy and especially when I see those laws abused or you know being raised under scrutiny

then I will see that the law needs to be clarified. There needs to be more sentences. There needs to be
