Summary

Tennis’ return went up a notch last week with many of the biggest names competing in Lexington and Prague.

We discuss the way in which champions Jennifer Brady and Simona Halep picked up where they left off six months ago, describe how it felt seeing top level tennis at a small club in Kentucky, assess Serena Williams’ form, marvel at Venus Williams’ remodelled service motion, and analyse yet another step forward for Coco Gauff.

David also speaks to Dan Evans about life inside the US Open bubble. What do players have to do when they arrive? What’s the hotel like? And how confident is he that players will follow the protocols?

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, and features Matt Roberts. It is produced weekly year-round, and daily during the Grand Slam tournaments. It is crowdfunded by listeners each December.

Oh, Bob, thank you so much. He misses tennis. He missed tennis. It's past tense now because it's back. As are we, Bob, thank you so much for your support in our Kickstarter at the end of last year and helping us to produce all of these shows, which I think number about 80 so far this year, Catherine. You enjoyed it.

0:52.0

It's quite a lot. I definitely enjoyed Bob. A lot of love for Bob. Bob Stocking is an excellent name. It sounds like a character in a rom-com.

1:02.0

Doesn't it? Yeah. Good work, Bob. Or a character in a sort of, it's a wonderful life type film. All good options.

1:10.0

Yeah, quite the gameless of options from Bob there. The I miss tennis t-shirt is no more folks. You can't get that anymore. We've discontinued it because tennis is back.

1:22.0

Do you think they're going to start appearing on eBay for hugely inflated prices?

1:26.0

Well, if they do. And the product description will say only 400 of these were made. Limited edition.

1:34.0

Yeah. What if they do make sure that you give your proceeds, your profits to the COVID-19 response fund, which is exactly what we did.

1:44.0

And we raised ÂŁ308.75, which I paid today. So thank you to everybody who bought a t-shirt, which is fantastic. We now have a replacement.

1:55.0

We have the I love tennis t-shirts in many different colors.

2:00.0

It'll never go out of fashion. No. Unless you just suddenly decide, do you know what? I'm just not into it anymore.

2:07.0

I don't like this knock in a ball. Does that ever happen? Like if you're into a sport, does anybody ever like just stop being into a sport?

2:17.0

I feel like it's you're into something from from childhood and then that's it.

2:23.0

I was the biggest. You can't you're going to say wrestling, aren't you? It's not a sport.

2:27.0

It's not a sport that's entertainment. That's like going off, you know, love Ireland or something.

2:34.0

No, because it became entertainment when it started calling itself the world wrestling entertainment.

2:39.0

I was in the WWF days, you see, and it was different then. But yeah, I'm.

2:44.0

Before they got sued by the world wide low fund. Probably something like that. But yeah, I went off it. So kind of.

2:52.0

But I think that's just growing up. I think that's different. Now might be the biggest test.
