Summary

ATP Tour tennis is back with the first big, combined women's and men's tournament since the pandemic struck down Indian Wells in March. With the 'Cincinnati' draw made, Catherine, David and Matt assembled once more to discuss the highlights, catch up on latest news, and also release our big interview with Lindsay Davenport (from 38.00).

Is the WTA draw now more star-studded than the men's draw, despite the withdrawals?

What did we think of Novak Djokovic's interview with Chris Clarey in the New York Times (linked below)?

And thoughts are exchanged about Denis Shapovalov's rap video.

Later, Davenport talks about tennis in front of no fans, her own career, and the greatness of Serena and Venus Williams.

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, and features Matt Roberts, and will be daily throughout the US Open.

Next week, we will produce two big special editions, focusing on first Althea Gibson, and then Arthur Ashe.

And thanks in particular to Sarah Matthew in Philadelphia who is responsible for that soothing and sumptuous intro that you just heard. Sarah, you have successfully auditioned to be the new voice of Marks and Spencer.

0:47.0

I probably don't know who Marks and Spencer are being based in the US, but they're a department store in the UK whose food adverts have sort of become quite famous for the soothing and sumptuous voice used on them.

1:04.0

And I think Sarah that you should consider being the next voice of M&S. If you haven't already.

1:12.0

I can send a tape in to Marks and Spencer's just so that they can try it out for themselves.

1:17.0

Either that or you should start a meditation app of some sort or just narrate things.

1:25.0

I buy that.

1:26.0

Yeah. Yeah. You and Yanik Noah.

1:29.0

I recently tried out the calm app because it came as a kind of added bonus with my phone contract.

1:41.0

How are you getting on with that Matt disappointed that Yanik Noah wasn't on it.

1:46.0

An oversight.

1:48.0

I've had to I've had to make do with Matthew McConaughey who to be fair does have a nice voice.

1:53.0

Matthew McConaughey is involved with the calm app.

1:56.0

Come on. That's night and day.

She just comes over and says all right, all right, all right, all right.
