So I'm not going to do a ton of recap because there's actually a sort of a break in the text here.

Last time we talked about chapter 16, which was about the Day of Atonement.

The beginning here of chapter 17, this part of the book of Leviticus from here, from the beginning of chapter 17 until the end of the book, which is the end of chapter 24. These chapters are

referred to as the holiness code by pointing headed intellectuals who publish journal articles.

But the point of that, the code part is because most of this is what we've talked about is legislative

material. We've talked about how leviticus has

these little pieces of sort of narrative about what's going on in the israelite camp and moses

and and god communicated with them and then big chunks as we've already seen sort of alternates that

with sort of big chunks of like instructions on how to do particular sacrifices and

particular rules about things. So this is commandments, this material for the rest of the book,

and that's where the code comes from. The holiness part comes from the fact that over and over again,

there's sort of a refrain where God says, be holy as I am holy.

Saying the people, you need to be holy, you need to be set apart, you need to be different
