The next few episodes were recorded while I was back in Los Angeles.

As some of you may know, I am just about to leave for a painting trip in Italy,

and I prepared for this sabbatical by recording well ahead of time.

As you listen to this, I should be in Italy painting away with the JSS Summer Program in

Civita with Israel Hirschberg.

And I spoke with Beth, who is a listener of the show, about her experience there, and she told

me to expect an intense painting experience, waking up early, going to bed late, and with very, very spotty internet

connection.

Instagram.com forward slash Antreswood. So on to today's show, Stanca Cordic is my guest today. Stanca graduated from college with an illustration degree and quickly discovered that she needed to adapt and reinvent herself as technology had completely

changed the playing field.

That might be hard enough, but Stonka tackled that at the same time that she started her family.

She began painting commissioned portraits while raising a newborn.

Eventually, the economic downturn in 2008 forced her to come up for air and look around to see what

was happening in the market.

To Stanka's surprise and delight, she found that there is a market out there for her figurative work. Yes, figurative work was actually a thing. In this episode, Stanka shares how she found collectors initially and what happened later when she pivoted to social media to find

collectors and galleries that interest her. She shares a story of how she used the

artist community to guide her choices and to help her avoid gallery pitfalls.
