Well, howdy there internet people? It's Bell again. So today we're going to talk about

Vance Smalltalk and one of the big problems we have as a country. I wanted to talk about this when it happened, but there's always so

much news that pushes the perfect moment to talk about something back a little bit.

I think I finally understand why that fourth video per day was added.

You probably remember Vance's weird trip to the donut shop. If you don't remember or somehow missed it, Vance running for VP stopped into a bakery to show he's just a normal guy.

And well, it missed the mark.

At the time, we had a few questions asking why Vance was interrogating the

employees about how long they worked there or how long the store had been open and why I didn't comment on how weird that was.

Because that might be the one thing he did that wasn't weird.

It's weird to see the interaction on video, but for a whole lot of people asking about their

job is small talk. The question of, so what do you do? Comes up a lot. Why? Because we as a society assign status based on profession or job.

Even if you're very conscious of the fact that every job society needs done has value and should be respected?

Unless you've really worked to get rid of the idea, somewhere in the back of your

head is a hierarchy of careers and the status that each career gets.

It informs us about which class somebody is in and whether they're part of our in group. This hierarchy of jobs keeps us divided up into our

little social circles and we stay in our defined professional clicks rather

than seeing each other as individuals who might have a lot in common.

We generally don't ask each other about hobbies or interests until after we know where the person works.

And that because they often first interact online,

they see the other person's interests ahead of time.
