So today, we're going to talk about Trump trying to influence the Supreme Court over TikTok.

TikTok up against the clock as the deadline requiring the parent company to sell or face a U.S. ban approaches.

Under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act,

the parent company has until January 19th to make its move.

Obviously, TikTok has filed to block enforcement of the law,

and the Supreme Court decided to take up the case.

They even fast-tracked the case, but they did not agree to temporarily halt the enforcement of the ban pending a decision. Trump met with the CEO of TikTok earlier this month, and now has waited

into the Supreme Court case. Trump's lawyer, D. John

Sauer, who is also Trump's pick for U.S. Solicitor General, wrote, quote, President Trump takes

no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully request that the court considers

staying the act's deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits

of this case. Thus, permitting President Trump's incoming administration the opportunity

to pursue a political resolution of the

questions at issue in this case. He goes on. Trump alone possesses the consummate deal-making

expertise, the electoral mandate, and the political will to negotiate a resolution to save the platform while addressing the national

security concerns expressed by the government. It's interesting because the law in question was a

bipartisan piece of legislation that has been signed into law. There's not much negotiating to be done.

The law will have to be struck down by the court or repealed by an act of Congress. The U.S.

government position is that, quote, TikTok collects vast swaths of data about tens of millions of Americans.
