So today, we're going to talk about GOP Medicaid cuts and 34,000 people per year.

Republicans are still pushing to make massive cuts to Medicaid while they try to signal they don't want to make the cuts.

Let's be clear. The House can't get their

agreed two cuts without massive cuts to Medicaid. Now, a new analysis from the Center for American

Progress has some numbers that are apparently surprising to people both on and off Capitol Hill.

The numbers shouldn't be surprising. This is really the plainly

obvious result of cutting people's health care. What's the top line of the analysis? If Republicans

cut federal matching to Medicaid expansion to a point that would cause states to abandon the program,

about 34,200 more people would die each year.

Yes, when you take health care away from people, they don't live as long.

Republican Representative Austin Scott of Georgia said, quote,

The federal government is paying 90% of the Medicaid expansion.

What we have talked about is moving that 90% of the Medicaid expansion. What we have talked about is moving

that 90% level of the expansion back toward the more traditional level. Nobody would be kicked

off Medicaid as long as governors decided they wanted to continue to fund the program. Here's the

problem with that statement. The traditional level of Medicaid matching starts at 50% and goes up to 77%.
