Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump's tariffs widening the trade deficit

and why it matters to you, because it does.

In completely unsurprising news, July saw the U.S. import even more goods than it exported. Yes, that's right.

Trump's war against trade deficits. The thing he said was an emergency, and that's why he didn't

need Congress, as the Constitution says, has caused the goods trade deficit to go up, not down.

Call it the Trump effect, or that I ignore experts effect.

U.S. imports from other countries grew 18.6 billion to 285 billion.

Goods exports went down 0.1 billion. Imports up, exports down. The exact

opposite of what he wanted. So what's happening? Tariffs are bad for business. They're bad for economic

growth. So companies front-loaded imports. They imported more than they normally

would, trying to get ahead of Trump's harmful economic policies that were set to kick in at that

August deadline. It's worth noting that while the increase in imports can be explained by U.S.

companies importing extra, the increase in imports can be explained by U.S. companies importing extra,

the decline in exports is most easily explained by other countries not purchasing U.S. products

because our international reputation has been damaged by erratic trade policies.

Okay, so what's that mean for you? Well, it means inflation hasn't

hit yet. I know you're saying it's inching up, and that's fine, but if they're still front-loading

supplies, they aren't paying the extra costs, which means they aren't passing them on yet. They're slowly

elevating the prices in hopes that there's a frog in a pot effect. You'll probably see other

forms of sneakflation as well. A package that normally costs $999 will still cost $999, but instead of containing 16 ounces, it'll only contain

15 and a half ounces. You might see minor surcharges, or you'll see freebies disappear,
