Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump, Portland, and posturing.

And what seems to be a pretty common event, news that's less than flattering to Trump comes out,

and he makes an announcement. This time, he took to a social media

site to post an announcement about Portland and the deployment of more federal troops. He posted,

quote, at the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Christy Noam. I am directing Secretary of War Pete

Hegeseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland and any of our

ice facilities under siege from attack by Antifa and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing full force if necessary.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Under currently invoked authorizations,

the Posse Cometatus Act of 1878 limits full force to what happened in California.

They can protect federal installations and so on.

Portland's mayor responded to the news by saying, quote,

We did not ask for them to come.

They are here without clear precedent or purpose.

We have seen that their presence harms commerce and prosperity and opportunity in other cities like Washington, D.C.

The residents seem to laugh at Trump's characterization of their city as a war zone.

Oregon's governor, Tina Kotech, said, quote, Portland is doing just fine, and I made that very clear to the president this morning. Our city is a far cry from the war-ravaged community that he has posted

about on social media. And I conveyed that directly to him, that we got this. We are good.

We are doing fine. She also made a pretty important element pretty clear when she said, quote, there is no mission for them right now.

It seems pretty obvious she won't authorize mobilization of her state's National Guard, so more legal battles.
