Learning the shutdown was a mistake for the GOP.

A new poll from John McLaughlin that was commissioned by the conservative group Americans for a

balanced budget, told Republicans what

we've been talking about for months. Their one big beautiful bill hurt Americans, and their continued

refusal to fix it will cost them. This is a pollster Trump Trust. The polling was conducted

across battleground districts that are must-wins for

Republicans. John McLaughlin, who is the CEO of McLaughlin and Associates, said quote,

across party lines, voters agree. Extending the tax credits is the common sense choice to keep health care costs down

and protect middle class families from higher taxes, with an overwhelming majority of voters

supporting the enhanced premium tax credits. This is a unifying issue that cuts across

partisan lines and resonates heading into the next election.

If you want the numbers that matter, a wide majority of respondents, 51% to 36% would support a Democratic candidate who fought to preserve and protect enhanced premium tax credits

over a Republican candidate who refused to protect enhanced premium tax credits and wanted them to expire.

The enhanced premium tax credits are supported by 72% of voters, and that includes 72% of independence.

This poll makes it clear. Preserving the enhanced premium tax credits isn't just good policy. It's smart politics for Republicans looking to defend their majority in the 2026 midterms.

Hardworking Americans are counting on Congress to prevent what would amount to a massive health care tax hike
