Well, howdy there, Internet people? It's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about Trump,

what's in a name, and money. Trump had quite the announcement, and it provoked a lot of reactions

from all over the political spectrum, which was probably what Trump actually wanted with this.

In his quest to look tougher and tougher when it comes to immigration,

Trump announced a new facility would be used to house more migrants. Ah, boarding at the bay. That sounds like

fun until you know what it references. Trump has ordered construction of a facility at Guantanamo Bay

to house 30,000 detained migrants. Reactions to this were immediate. Those who support his policies

seem to think this will deter people, and those who oppose them are generally worried. People are

having this reaction because most people associate Gitmo with one thing and one thing only. The U.S.

installation on Cuba dates back to 1903. Cuba doesn't want it there, and that's some interesting

reading if you want to look at how the situation has progressed over the years. Let's start

with this. Having a migrant detention center will not deter people.

I know this for a fact, because it hasn't. Gipmo has had a detention center for migrants for decades.

Trump's order is expanding a facility that already exists. If it was going to deter them, it would have, right? This,

like many of Trump's policies, is just an expensive show for emotion's sake. For years and

years and years, the U.S. has taken migrants picked up at sea to Gitmo to an entirely different

detention facility than the one

people are picturing. But this announcement allows Trump to play into that image. People often say

the cruelty is the point. I don't think it is. The fear is the point. But the image this will be associated with long term won't be Trump the tough guy. It will be Trump lighting fire to stacks of money. Now that you know it won't be the notorious detention facility, can anybody explain why it's being expanded?
