Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about

Trump ending education. The Supreme Court ruled that Trump can continue to dismantle the Department of Education

while court battles play out. It didn't explain its reasoning, which is normal in this type of decision.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor didn't stay quiet and publicly criticized her colleagues in a 19-page

dissent, saying, quote, the majority is either willfully blind to the implications of its ruling or naive.

But either way, the threat to our Constitution's separation of powers is great.

This ruling allows Trump or a future president to, in effect, repeal functions mandated by Congress

by simply firing the staff required to perform the tasks.

She went on in her dissent, quote,

When the executive publicly announces its intent to break the law and then executes on that promise,

it is the judiciary's duty to check that lawlessness, not expedite it.

Sky Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward, described the situation as, quote,

Without explaining to the American people its reasoning, a majority of justices on the U.S. Supreme Court have dealt a devastating blow to this nation's promise of public education for all children.

On its shadow docket, the court has yet again ruled to overturn the decision of two lower courts without argument.

The legal battles will continue, but the damage will be done for years because of this

decision. But one of the things not being generally discussed while this plays out is the message

it's sending to students.

Trump's move and the Supreme Court's ruling clearly tells American youth that education is not a national priority.

Removing the Department of Education from the federal government can only say that the United States has completely given up on education. Not reforming,

removing. It's not needed. I know the talking point is that it's to return education to the states.

Sure, but that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. We know from experience that different states without a unifying body will have different standards.

By default, that means some American kids will be left behind for a political talking point.
