Well, howdy there, internet people, it spell again. So today, we're going to talk about Trump and the GOP,

0:10.9

caving on the ACA. Trump recently led the GOP and the U.S. into the longest government shutdown in history.

0:20.8

The primary sticking point, according to Republicans, was Democrats wanting the ACA premium tax credits extended.

0:28.9

A move that would show clearly that Trump's signature won big beautiful bill, failed the working class by giving tax breaks to billionaires and leaving the

0:39.3

working class out in the cold. Now my personal belief is that we actually had a shutdown over

0:45.8

Trump's ego, but that's personal opinion. We talked about how Republicans not extending the credits

0:53.6

would likely doom them at the midterms

0:55.7

as they impact tens of millions of people. But they were steadfast in their resolve to not

1:02.7

extend a hand to the working class. Trump made grandiose promises about replacing the ACA and so on. Now that the shutdown is over, there's an

1:14.5

interesting bit of gossip in the D.C. rumor mills. Trump plans on throwing his weight behind.

1:21.8

Drum roll please. Extending the credits. Maybe as soon as this week. It turns out that much like foreign policy

1:30.9

and trade deals, health care is hard. As we suggested they do during the shutdown, the Republicans

1:38.8

are trying to rally around small changes and make it seem like that was the real reason for the shutdown.

1:46.9

But their own statements from the time shows that not to be true. We talked about how they might

1:53.4

suggest putting income caps on it or minimum premiums. Those are literally the two changes being talked about. As we understand it,

2:04.9

there will be an income cap that reduces the credits. But from what we've heard, the income

2:11.8

caps are high enough to make it so almost anyone making that much isn't using the ACA marketplace anyway. The minimum

2:21.3

premium is weird according to the rumor mill. During the shutdown, Republicans said that millions

2:28.3

of people were insured via the ACA, but didn't know it. The minimum payment is their way to make sure that there

2:37.1

isn't any scam going on. But here's the weird part. The premiums, according to the rumor,

2:44.3

are incredibly low. The reason that's strange is because it seems like Republicans actually believed their own rhetoric

2:53.1

for once, and this wasn't just something they were feeding low information voters.
