So today we're going to talk about vote counts and the Republican attempt to shut down the government before the election.

Speaker Johnson is attempting to cater to a Trump-backed plan

to trigger a government shutdown right before the election.

I know that some people have an issue with it

being described that way.

We'll address that at the end.

If you missed it, the House GOP gave up on their duty to pass a budget and is opting

for a continuing resolution.

The plan to attach a provision that would require more paperwork to register to vote

looks like it's headed to a vote on the floor.

The problem for Johnson, Trump, and the faction of Republicans

in safe districts that really want headlines is that it's a non-starter in the Senate.

And now it looks like there's a bigger problem for

them it might not make it out of the House that's right their stunt is so

objectionable and potentially harmful to the economy that they've already

reportedly seen enough defections to cast doubt on it making it out of the House.

Current vote count math says that if Democrats stick together, the Republicans are

unlikely to have the votes to even attempt their little stunt. On top of five

Republicans who have said they won't support the provision that almost guarantees a government shutdown,

there are a decent number of Republicans who have said they are leaning against supporting it.
