Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about the USDA,

the price of eggs, in 2025. One of Trump's big promises was to bring down the price of groceries,

and one of the biggest complaints driving people to believe his rhetoric was the increasing price of eggs.

Soon after being elected, Trump started walking back his promises about lowering prices.

Now, we have the USDA price predictions for 2025.

Retail egg prices are expected to go up around 20.3% over the next year. Yes, up 20%, not down.

Now, if you're somebody who has access to farm-level egg prices, you're looking at a 45.2% increase.

Overall, prices for food are expected to increase about 2.2%. So, why are eggs so much of an

inflationary outlier? The same reason they were before, bird flu. In November and December alone,

more than 17 million egg-laying birds were destroyed. People asked why that term

gets used instead of killed. It's to signify that it wasn't necessarily the virus and that they

have been removed from the food supply. Indications are that the Trump administration will be limiting

information coming out about health-related

issues. So, we may lose insight into how bad it is. If prices suddenly drop, that might be a sign

of lax virus containment measures, rather than a lack of infections. Without information coming from health officials, it will be

impossible to gauge the market, which will probably cause more volatility. Now, we also have

reports suggesting that the bird flu has reached the facilities where young chickens are raised

to be egg producers. That's going to further disrupt supplies.

I can't tell if that development is factored into the current USDA price predictions.

Now, the other thing to note is that the 2.2% increase for overall food is based on current situations. If tariffs, labor shortages,

or so on impact costs, your price will go up further. We've had a number of questions about

people who want to start backyard flocks. I'm not sure right now is the time to do that.
