Well, howdy there, internet people, it's bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about voters suing over GOP Missouri gerrymander.

In a completely foreseeable event, after Republicans disregarded the petitions and demonstrations from voters

over the Trump-directed redistricting effort,

Missouri voters are suing, with the help of the ACLU and Campaign Legal Center.

The suit alleges that Republicans intentionally split Kansas City, Missouri,

therefore breaking up the black vote with a quote giraffe neck.

That weird phrase may actually become really important later because Missouri's requirements

state that districts must be as compact as may be. If they can show cracking, splitting up a

voting block occurred via a map that contains districts

that aren't compact, it's going to be hard for the GOP to move forward. The suit argues that

political considerations don't provide an exemption to the compactness requirement. The complaint also states that, quote,

At the demand of President Trump, and contrary to the plain text of Missouri's Constitution

and decades of precedent, Governor Kehoe recently called an extraordinary session of the Missouri

legislature to jam through an unconstitutional

mid-decade redraw of the state's congressional districts, with the goal of preventing Kansas

City voters from electing their preferred candidate to Congress. The mayor of Kansas City was

public with his opposition, saying, quote,

This gerrymander represents nothing more than a political attack,

orchestrated by Washington elites. Make no mistake, this isn't about representing Missourians

or defending our interests. It's about suppressing our voices, especially those of Kansas
