Well, howdy there, internet people, it's bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about the House voting to overturn a Trump executive order.

The lame duck is starting to quack louder.

The Republican-led House approved a measure to reinstate collective bargaining rights for federal workers on Thursday.

It's the first time Congress has gotten anywhere in an attempt to fulfill its constitutional duty as a check against the executive branch since Trump's second term started.

The vote was 231 to 195. The vote was 231 to 195, making it downright bipartisan in our current climate. 20 Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats in

favor of the bill. The bill's sponsors reflected the bipartisan nature of the issue.

It was introduced by Representative Jared Golden of Maine and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania.

Fitzpatrick is a Republican. Golden took to social media to celebrate the win, posting, quote,

Despite all the forces against us, the House has passed my bill to restore union rights

to roughly one million federal employees. This is solidarity in action. I'm proud of the

bipartisan coalition who passed this bill,

and I urge the Senate to join us in standing up for workers.

It's going to face an uphill battle in the Senate.

The only reason it even made it to a vote in the House, which is full of a lot of anti-worker Republicans,

is because a few Republicans crossed over to sign a discharge petition.

The executive order that would be nullified uses some pretty stretched logic to move on Trump's

union-busting agenda.

The Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 has a line that allows the government to yank collective bargaining from, quote, agencies or units within an agency, which has as a primary function,

intelligence, investigative, or national security work.

Trump used this to hit workers in the Department of Energy, Commerce, Health and Human Services,

Treasury and the VA, along with departments that require less mental gymnastics to make it make sense.
