Well, howdy there internet people, let's bow again. So today we are going to talk about a question that was prompted by this news

because any time something like this comes up or discovered or the news breaks, people want to know if

it's the same. Okay, so what's the news? Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook, they are saying that they have

disrupted the largest covert influence operation that they ever have in their entire history.

And it looks like one was Chinese and one was Russian.

Now, they worked in two different ways and we're just going to kind of go over both of them.

The Chinese one seemed to be more sophisticated and it basically had fake accounts spread

over like 50 websites to include every major social media website from

Facebook Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, Tik-Tok, doesn't matter,

all of them.

And these accounts would post content that was supportive of Beijing's goals and we used to kind of discredit those who were critical of Beijing.

Okay. This seemed a little bit more real than the Russian operation.

So at the end of the day it's a standard influence operation for social media.

It's really that simple.

The scale is unique but not really surprising and this was all over the place covering a whole bunch of different aspects of Beijing's foreign policy, it was really just cheerleading for China,

trying to get other people in other countries to be supportive of their goals,

which is, I mean, that's what an influence operation is supposed to do.

Okay, then the Russian one.

So, this was a little different, a little bit more crude in structure,

so much so that those who looked into it were apparently questioning whether or not the people behind this were actually serious about what they were doing

or they were just trying to prove that they were making the posts so they could get paid.

So the current belief is that this was definitely a contracted out operation.
