So today, we're going to talk about how Trump has everything wrong about NATO.

Trump rambled about NATO because NATO countries didn't agree to support his elective actions. His rhetoric has led to a flood of questions.

First, we'll go over what he said and then get to the key questions. Trump said, quote,

Why would we be there for them if they're not there for us? They weren't there for us. That sounds like a breaking story.

Yes, sir. Is that breaking news? I think we just have breaking news. But that's the fact. I've been

saying that. Why would we be there for them if they're not there for us? They weren't there for us.

We spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year on NATO, hundreds, protecting them, and we would have always been there for them. But now, based on

their actions, I guess we don't have to be, do we? This really shows that Trump doesn't understand what NATO is, its obligations, or its history.

But that will be explained by answering the questions.

The NATO treaty doesn't mean if one country elects somebody

who doesn't understand the consequences of his actions,

and he starts a war, that NATO members must join.

It's a defensive treaty. It's also geographically limited to when

members are attacked on their home soil and specific possessions. Next question. Bell, Trump sounds

like he's ready to pull us out of NATO. Can he do that? No, for a whole bunch of reasons.

First, the treaty was ratified by the Senate in the 40s. That presents its own issue. But beyond that,

his current Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, spearheaded legislation in 2023 that explicitly

prohibits a president from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO without an act of Congress,
