Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Texas and the Democratic plan to leave.

In an attempt to shield the House majority from the voter's response to their unpopular policies,

Republicans are planning on redistricting in the middle of the decade, to draw up

safer red districts and dilute the vote of Americans who are tired of giving up everything so their

representatives can give billionaires tax cuts. Rather than allowing the voters to choose their

representatives, Republicans want the representatives to choose their voters with new maps.

The Democratic Party in Texas appears to have found its will to fight back by, well, leaving.

State legislators have already been reaching out to rich donors to gather the funding to break

quorum. Basically, if enough democratic legislators dip out of the state, the legislature can't achieve a

quorum and therefore can't approve the redistricting. So, why do they need to talk to rich donors for this?

Because the Republicans have tried to deter the tactic by applying a fine for breaking quorum. The fine

is $500 per day. That could quickly add up to a lot of money the Democratic representatives don't have.

It appears that rich donors and even some other politicians who have better fundraising networks

seem to be on board with the idea. El Paso State Representative Vince Perez went on record, saying, quote,

I think quorum break is a very serious response that should be used very sparingly in extreme circumstances.

I do believe that this is an extreme circumstance.

Beyond being a unique tactic to slow or maybe even stop a GOP

attempt to choose their voters, it does something else. It gives the Democratic Party a way to show

it's actually trying. With the limited amount of congressional power they have, the party has a hard time energizing its base.

I have to admit that I find the fact that literally doing nothing is going to be an exciting move for the Democratic Party pretty funny.

But it likely would energize the base.
