Well, howdy there internet people, let's bow again. So today we are going to talk

about birds and milk and the San Francisco area and $176 million.

And we're going to just kind of go over some information,

provide some updates,

and just keep everybody informed as the information comes. some information

comes out.

Okay, so starting off,

barda, which is kind of like the public health version of DARPA.

They signed a deal with Moderna for $176 million to come up with an H5N1 vaccine.

It's bird flu.

This is something that the public health community

has been worried about for a while.

When I talk about that conference that I went to forever ago,

like years and years and years ago, the subject was bird flu. So the idea here is to get a vaccine, a basis for a vaccine prior to it evolving into a full-blown public health emergency.

So... health emergency. So that's on track. Now as far as where things stand I want to say there are three confirmed cases in people all mild and there's more than a

hundred herds of dairy cows infected.

In related news, in the San Francisco area, there have been three wastewater sites that have picked

up evidence of H5N1. The reason that's

interesting is because you've had this happen in seven or eight states, but California doesn't have a confirmed

situation with a dairy herd.

So it's kind of a sign of things to come maybe.
