Well, howdy there internet people, let's bow again. So today we're going to talk about the Arctic and ice and solutions.

And a particular piece of coverage that has caught a lot of people's attention and

imaginations and we're going to talk about it and point out an incredibly important piece that seems to be getting lost in a lot of the conversation.

So there are a bunch of experiments going on trying to figure out how to deal with

melting ice caps and all of the issues that that will cause.

One experiment in particular has caught a lot of people's attention because it's simple. It seems very, very doable. And that is

drilling a hole through the ice that exists and pumping water up and spraying it out. It freezes, it creates more ice, therefore problem solved, right?

Not so fast. The key part about this is that while yes at first glance this

seems like it would work and there are other

experiments that are also showing promise like the thing with the beads there's like

reflective bleeds and that actually it does appear that that really slowed the

melt. The thing is that's a symptom that's not actually the problem. The issue is the warming

planet. The issue is the emissions.

This isn't a solution.

It's mitigation.

It's something that can buy time to come up with a solution if it works.

And then the other thing to keep in mind

is that there is,

there are downstream effects to this. If you keep the North Pole cold and it's warming everywhere else,

you're probably going to drastically alter weather patterns.

This isn't a solution, this isn't a fix in any way. This is mitigation. This is buying time to cut emissions to transition our energy. That's the solution. We're not

going to get away from that.
