Well, howdy there, internet people, let's bow again.

So today we are going to talk about Alabama and maps in the Supreme Court in a proceeding that is, or was, a proceeding that's occurring sometime today.

In fact, it may have already happened by the time this video goes out.

I'm not sure yet.

So, what's the context here?

The state of Alabama put together congressional maps and the court found them to be gerrymandered.

Went to the Supreme Court, Supreme Court kind of grade.

Short version is that Alabama was supposed to create new maps that included two majority black

areas, two majority black districts. They did not. I believe the actual wording on

it was a second majority black district or something close to it. They didn't, that's not what they created.

And they put out these new maps and approved them in what seems to be open defiance of the United States Supreme Court.

Obviously there were challenges to this.

Today there is a three panel or a three judge panel that is looking into this.

Now, they're kind of on the clock

for any new map to be used.

It has to be ready by kind of the beginning of October.

The odds of that happening if they just decide to send it back to the political machine in Alabama that has created the last two maps.

That seems unlikely. the term special master again again because that's what may happen here.

Or I mean I guess there is a possibility that the judges decide that no they they gave it their best shot and just couldn't do it.

Now I will say that when I first heard their argument the Republican argument. that well this was the best we could do it
