Today, I want to talk about a really heavy subject, and that is the way that the entire country is reeling after an ICE agent shot protester Renee Good through the head,

killing her this week, video showing that agent cursing her as she died.

I know that as people are debating, well, was this the use of legitimate force or not?

As soon as I saw this, I knew that there would be many Christians who would be morally shaken and rightfully so by this.

But I also knew that a lot of people would soothe

their troubled consciences with a predictable past description. And it isn't, Blessed are the peacebangers.

Instead, it seems that whenever an agent of the state kills a person in morally questionable

circumstances, many Christians go right to one particular chapter of

scripture, and that's Romans 13. Sometimes you will have people saying, well, Romans 13, even before

the blood is cleaned from the ground. Now, what people mean when they say Romans 13 is an argument the Apostle Paul makes in that chapter where he says in verse one,

let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God,

and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resist what God has appointed. Now, what some Christians

draw from this and from the argument that comes out of it about the fact that the legitimate powers

that be do not bear the sword in vain, as Paul put it, is to say, well, that means that state action is morally legitimate
