It's not a one-time decision, a perfectly crafted affirmation,

For me, that truth landed loudly through tinnitus. Tinnitus is when you hear sounds that aren't caused by anything external.

For example, ringing, buzzing, rustling, hissing. I don't have it 24-7, but I've had it at varying

intensities for 11 years. At first, I thought I could, you know, fix it like I thought I had

with psychosis in my 20s. I just needed, you know, the it like I thought I had with sarcoidosis in my 20s. I just needed,

you know, the right therapy, mindset or lifestyle. But tinnitus had other plans. No matter what I

tried, acupuncture, kinesiology, cutting out wheat, no caffeine, cutting back sugar, early night,

strong boundaries, slowing down, speeding up, no ambition, more ambition, exercise, no

exercise, HRT, no HRT, so many things. Sometimes it got worse, sometimes it calmed down, but nothing,

you know, cured or fixed it. My experience forced me to confront a truth that Professor Life

loves to bring back around. I'm not in control.
