Summary

We can all learn from hard knocks, but it's a lot less painful to learn by example. Elijah's story is full of great examples, both good and bad.

If it wasn't for Andrew's teachings, I would never be where I am today. I would never have victory. I would be living a life of defeat.

It was Andrew's teaching that allowed me to develop that faith.

Welcome to our Tuesday's broadcast of the Gospel Truth.

0:28.0

Yesterday I started a brand new series entitled Lessons from Elijah.

0:33.0

This is an old teaching that I have but we're updating the teaching. Of course the book will stay the same.

0:39.0

I've also got a steady guide on this and the purpose of this is really to disciple other people to take the same truths that are in the book but they're reformatted in a way where you ask questions and discuss it and you train other people.

0:53.0

So this is great. We also have CDs and DVDs.

And as I said on my program yesterday out of 1 Corinthians chapter 10 verses 6 through 11, it says all of the things that were recorded in Scripture were recorded for our learning, for our example that we through them might learn not to make the same mistakes that they made.

1:16.0

And so by studying other people actually we're making a package deal and at the end of our program they'll be showing you that I have a book entitled Lessons from David and I've also got a teaching lessons from Joseph.

1:30.0

And so we have these teachings about these people in the Bible that if you will receive the instruction from them it will encourage you.

1:40.0

It will inspire you to do the good things that they did but it will also warn you about the mistakes that they made and I tell you this is just so important.

1:50.0

I've said this often but this I've lived vicariously through the people that are in Scripture and I think that this is one of the reasons that so many Christians just make dumb decisions.

2:02.0

I'm saying that in love but I mean it's dumb sin is deadly, sin will destroy you and yet Christians go out and make these mistakes because they fall for the lives of the devil that is not bad, it's not going to hurt you.

2:16.0

If you study Scripture and see what is happening in other people's lives I tell you why it will warn you and it will give you a holy fear that you don't want to experience the same things that they went through.

2:30.0

And Elijah is one of those characters I've learned a lot through Elijah. So yesterday in our program we didn't really get into Elijah yet I was just setting the background in showing you that Elijah lived under a government system where Ahab and Jezebel, the king and the queen had totally rejected God they had instituted bail worship and they were killing any prophets of God.

2:58.0

It was a bad situation and even though our situation may not be that bad it has become hostile towards Christians where they've actually considered the church to be non-essential and I guarantee if you were to bring up the Bible and start quoting the Bible today and saying this is what God says people will ridicule you.

3:20.0

I actually was listening to a call in show one time as I was driving and they were discussing moral issues and somebody quoted the Bible and they said well the Bible says and the radio host just cut them off and said look we aren't talking about theory and religion we just want to deal with facts and would not allow them to quote the Bible.

3:42.0

Our society has become hostile to the Bible so there are similarities and what do you do do you just stay in your home and pray if Elijah had just stayed at home and prayed and not taken the word that God had given him and spoken it out and gone directly to the king and if spoken what God had given him then he wouldn't have had the impact that he did.

4:08.0

Look at this in 1 Kings chapter 17 verse 1 it says in Elijah the Tishbite who was at the inhabitants of Gilead you know one of the things I learned about this is that it didn't give his real pedigree it didn't tell you about all of his experiences Elijah just burst on the scene with virtually no background information the thing that made Elijah important and propelled him to prominence in the society.

4:37.0

It was the fact that he had a word from God and I tell you sometimes people miss this they think that well they have to go through all of this training and they have to do all these things and we're always down playing you know the importance of the word of God but Elijah it wasn't anything about him he didn't have direct in road to the king prior to this or anything the thing that made him stand out was he had a word from God.
