Good evening from Los Angeles. I'm Jason Johnson and for Chris Hayes. We're

officially an election year and 2024 brings with it a number of legal and political hurdles

for the quadruple indicted twice impeached ex-president.

We are less than two weeks away from the first in the nation Iowa

caucus and while Trump is still a heavy favorite to win in the Hawkeye state

his future is far more uncertain from there. We're about three weeks out from the New Hampshire primary.

And while his lead there is still substantial,

former South Carolina Governor Nicky Haley

has developed some late momentum.

And of course, Donald Trump's electoral fortunes

are closely linked to his legal jeopardy.

As of now, he has already been kicked off

the primary ballot in two Super Tuesday states,

Maine in Colorado under the 14th Amendment.

And on January 16th, the first of his many trials

scheduled for this year is set to begin

after Hail Mary attempts to delay the proceedings have failed.

Trump is now set to begin his second trial for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll

just one day after the Iowa Caucasus.

Trump, you may remember, was already found liable once for defaming and sexually abusing Carol.

The second trial is for additional comments he made both while president and following that last verdict.

But it doesn't stop there.
