My guest today is Lenny Kaye, who, depending on the way you've interacted with musical

culture, you hear that name and if you know it and you should know it, you might think

of nuggets, the first collection of garage rock that ever existed, kind of invented what

garage rock was, and you might know Craw Daddy, the magazine that he founded or helped

found and wrote for, you might know the Susanne Vega albums that he produced, including

the one with Tom's Diner and Luca on it, and the first one, which is one of my favorite

albums of all time, or you might know him in the role that I guess he's most known for,

which is being the guitar player who's been next to Patty Smith on stage for most of

60 years or something like, 50, 53, 54, it's hard to imagine.

There was an Interregnum, but basically they've been together for most of the time.

He's also someone who would know how to use the word Interregnum.

And I have known Lenny, we haven't seen each other much lately, but I've known Lenny since

I was still in college, and man, it's great to see you.

Well, it's great to be here, Brian.

We've interacted many a time over the years and you know, we've kept our heads above

order, which is a great thing.

It really is.

Well, I think you know, because I think right from what we met, I think we met between

my junior and senior year college or something like that.

And I remember even then sort of being drawn to you, as I'm sure many sort of young people

who want to be in the arts in some way that's unclear, I remember being drawn to you because
