In Our Headphones is made possible in part by Thorntail Hard Agave. Storefinder at drinkthorntail.com. From Independent Music Station, K-E-X-P, you're listening to In Our Headphones, a podcast about the songs that we just can't get enough of lately. This is Evie Stokes, and this week I'm talking with Lena from Seattle band Coral Grief. Hi, Lena. Hey, Evie. Thanks for having me on today.

0:22.7

And yeah, I play in a few bands in town, Coral Grief, and I also play in Spiral XP. But yeah, I don't know.

0:30.1

I love music. I love Seattle. And I love KXP. So all my favorite things happen in here right now.

0:36.8

I know you brought a new song that you want to talk about.

0:39.8

What you got?

0:40.6

Yeah, I have a song called Field Trip by Galore.

0:44.3

They're actually a Bay Area band.

0:46.7

It's been great to hear all the new Bay Area music coming on KexP.

0:50.9

So this is a band that I learned about pretty recently because they put

0:56.3

music out during the same time we released a record. So I was kind of seeing what else was coming

1:01.8

out and we were kind of ships in the night on tour. We went down to the bay and were playing

1:06.8

when Glor was up in Seattle and they played with her friend's pitch house and they said they

1:11.8

were just incredible lives so that drew me to them even more. And this album is truly just such a

1:18.4

strong, beautiful, sunshiny, melodic, I don't know, group of songs. And this particular track

1:24.9

called Field Trip is such a strong opening track. It starts with just a super soft, kind of creating a pastoral scene, and it's a really humble start, but that picks up really quickly, and it reminds me a lot of, like, heavenly in the pastels, kind of some sunshine pop, a lot of early 2000s melodies. But the whole album really puts me in like a super good mood and it just makes you want to

1:49.0

play music with your friends and I don't know, it's a really inspiring record.

1:54.0

But this song specifically is just like it picks you up and it kind of lifts you into the clouds,

2:00.0

even if it's rainy or sunny.

2:02.5

It doesn't really matter.

2:04.3

But then it ends with these like frogs croaking, which is such a nice touch.

2:09.1

And like it explores a lot of, there's almost like five different parts to the song.

2:15.6

Like within it's only two and a half minutes long, but it just goes through so many different sections. And I love when bands like trade off the singers, which they do throughout the whole album. But even within the song, I think that's really special. But yeah, I'm really excited about this record. And I can't wait to see what else Glor gets up to. I'm excited to see them live based off of what I heard from this album. I hope that they're coming through Seattle soon. Do you know if they are? They just came here like a few weeks ago. So I don't think they'll be up here, but for all the Bay Area listeners, definitely keep them on your radar. And hopefully we'll get them back up here and we would love to play with
