The great Lynn Dawson has died at the age of 87 and we will spend zero time on this podcast

in mourning or crying or being sad about one of the

greatest lives ever lived, one of the coolest people I've ever met.

Len Dawson was a guiding force in Kansas City for many people, a wonderful member of our community,

a terrific Hall of Fame football player, a great Hall of Fame broadcaster,

and all-round, generous, kind, considerate man, despite his enormous celebrity and fame,

you just couldn't meet a nicer guy than Len Dawson.

I can't find it in me to be overly sad about

this. Len has been sick and out of the spotlight for several years. Most recently at Sports

Radio 810, he worked as a contributor, and Len would come in frequently to the radio station. We

would see him there. Prior to that, I spent an awful lot of time out on stories, both in radio and as a television reporter for a dozen years in Kansas

City, where Len would be on the story as well. We'll talk a little bit about his career,

some of the things that he accomplished and things that he did that you may not know about.

Of course, he was a champion of

Super Bowl 4 quarterback. We know the famous halftime photo where he had the cigarette and the

fresco. Many people know that he couldn't eat or sleep for two days leading up to that Super Bowl

because there was some question as whether or not he had an association with some gamblers and

if there was illegal money bet on this game. So it wasn't without peril his career and it wasn't always that easy. He played

quarterback at a time where it was nothing like playing quarterback today. I think he threw for

about 150 yards in that Super Bowl, including a big 46-yard touchdown pass to Otis Taylor as
