Hello, everybody. I'm Robbie Gupta. And I'm Ricky Schlaught. Ricky, okay, legacy admissions. You have written about it. We've done a ton of stuff at the branch about it. And we'll link to this long narrative episode we did in the fall about legacy admissions. Seems like this is what everybody wants to talk about now. And the Education Department got in on the mix.

So the Education Department's Office of Civil Rights has opened a civil rights investigation

into Harvard's legacy admissions policy.

And this seems spurred by a series of liberal advocacy groups who are essentially saying

that legacy preferences hurt

applicants of color.

And this is a fascinating spin on it.

Interesting that they're using race, I think, here.

I think in part because they want to tie it to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which

we actually talked about on Tuesday, which is the part of the Civil Rights Act that applies to institutions

that receive federal funds, says they can't discriminate on the basis of race. There's some irony

in that. But Ricky, this is a bipartisan effort. So Tim Scott and AOC and Neil Gorsuch, Jeff Merkley, Jamal Bowman, they've all

gotten in on the mix and all sound very similar when they're talking about legacy admissions.

Does this give you a hope that we'll see reform of this practice? Yeah, although I mean, I don't

really see the racial argument being all that persuasive. I think it just doesn't benefit a large swath of Americans who
