What's going on everyone out there in the world of gardening? My name is Kevin. We're back again with the Epic Gardening podcast and as a little change, let's talk about some edible plants today and specifically we're going to be talking about leaks.

Leeks are in my opinion an undervalued vegetable that many of us don't grow and honestly we don't even cook with them. But a good potato leak soup, it's hard to beat that my friends.

own garden. So let's go ahead and get into leaks. They're a family, they're

and get just a couple varieties you may want to try out. We'll talk about some general rules of thumb for

planting and care and then we'll talk about harvesting and storing because that's

also important. But first, what are leaks? Well, the leak vegetable,

it is part of the Allium species of the Lelaease family. Of course I'm going to butcher that Latin. You know this by now. Now this is the same family that encompasses

onions, garlic, chives, many of the aromatic vegetables that we grow. Now, they were originally cultivated in Central Asia. They spread through Europe

due to how tasty that they were. They were eaten by the Egyptians, the Romans. They were,

it basically became a mainstay in the cuisines of Europe and Northern Africa.

And so then of course once everyone came to America, so did the leaks, and they were cultivated
