Welcome back everyone to the epic gardening podcast. I feel like this week I should call it the epic brewing podcast but that's probably a ready brewery because there's a million

breweries out there and I don't

want to infringe on anyone's company name so I won't do that but Mandy McKay is back.

She's the director of sustainability at Sierra Nevada. We've talked a lot about what they've done and

then we've also brought it down to what you can do and I can do at the individual

level and now we're going to kind of feature what something could look like from a

sustainability perspective again brewing very resource intensive industry

compared to most and so Mandy you have a lead platinum brewery.

So first, I think we should explain what lead platinum even means,

and then we can dive into what that looks like.

Yes, so lead, LEED, stands for leadership and energy and environmental design.

And so it's a building certification that is really just looking at how a building was constructed, what were the materials used,

how was it designed, what are some of the features of it that people are going to experience

or that make it a sustainable building.

And so we decided to go for lead certification when we announced the opening of our second

brewery in Western North Carolina.

So we're just outside of Asheville in a small town called Mills River.

And so I would encourage everyone to go visit when and if you can,

when we're back open it blows me away every

time I go there it is absolutely beautiful and you can see so many great

design features that were implemented as part of our lead certification.
