As President Donald Trump flies back to the U.S. after meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing,

the State Department in Washington secured a 45-day ceasefire extension between Lebanon and Israel.

The truce takes effect on Sunday, the same day it was set to expire.

The State Department hosted the talks, with one official describing the atmosphere as, quote,

very positive, even exceeding expectations.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel and Iran-Bet's militant group, Hezbollah, have repeated cross-border exchanges.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, Israel carried out a strike targeting Hamas' most senior military leader amid a fragile ceasefire in the enclave.

That's according to a joint statement from Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

They say Is Alden al-Hadad was one of the architects behind the October 7th attacks

and behind holding hostages afterward. Emergency services in Gaza say Israel hit a residential

building near Gaza City today. They say the strikes killed at least seven people with more

than 50 others injured. Hamas did not immediately respond to a request for comment. CNN is unable to

independently confirm whether Al-Hadadad was killed in the strike. More news coming up, including

retrial ended in a mistrial with the hung jury.

While the former Hollywood mogul has been convicted of other sex crimes on two U.S. coasts

and remains behind bars, the mistrial leaves the New York rape charge in limbo after three trials.

The jury had been deliberating for three days about whether Weinstein raped hairstylist

and actor Jessica Mann in 2013 whether Weinstein raped hairstylists and actor

Jessica Mann in 2013 when Weinstein was married.

Weinstein didn't testify, but his lawyers argued the encounter was consensual.
