I'm going to start today with something from the archives.

One of the least well-known and most absurd wildlife encounters I have ever read about.

1991. Pacific Ocean off the coast of Palau.

A group of wildlife experts are out on the open waters,

cruising in a 23-foot-long fiberglass runabout. Scanning the horizon, they notice a commotion

in the distance, something splashing in the water. They see what looks to be a large creature, surfacing and resurfacing about

300 meters away. They approach the scene cautiously and discover an unbelievable battle taking place in

front of them. A seven-foot-long shark is being chased by an enormous five-foot-long sea turtle.

The shark, likely has surprised as everybody involved except the turtle, eventually manages to escape their rival.

But the turtle is still hungry for war. And when the shark leaves, she turns on her new enemy.

The boat. The dumbfounded crew watches as the turtle turns towards them and begins ramming their

ship with tremendous force, slamming their vessel with the top of her shell. They later said

that if they weren't paying attention, this cramming could have knocked them off their feet.

During this attack, the turtle regularly surfaces and erratically splashes the water,

even turning upside down whilst doing so, apparently attempting to intimidate the massive fiberglass fish in front of them.

After almost 10 minutes of repeated assaults, the turtle finally shows them mercy and turns to leave.

Assuming, wrongly, that the situation is now safe,

two members of the crew decide to jump in the water with masks and snorkels on.

Immediately, the turtle comes back with a vengeance, rushing towards the now terrified swimmers.

Both men are chased back to the boat, as the turtle charges towards them.

One man has to kick the turtle just to stop her from biting him.
