leader podcasts. So we find ourselves in a very difficult season in the midst of this coronavirus epidemic that we are just entering, actually, at the end of the first week and very challenging, as just hard to

believe news keeps coming at us at a pace that's difficult to absorb, let alone lead other

people in the process. And so we, along with millions of other people, tens of millions of

people around the world, are in voluntary self-containment.

And the world is undergoing a reshaping of life, as we've known it.

And so it's here.

It's going to be here for a while.

And so the question now is how to respond?

And so I'm going to call today basically a part two of last week of leading through loss during the coronavirus pandemic.

a sermon that I'd given that presented a broad but very important biblical theology around grief

and loss because grief and loss and is really, I think, one of the core

theological paradigms for us as we go through what I'm going to simply call a collective

dark night of the soul together. And look at the story of Joe. We've had to listen to it.

I encourage you to go back and listen to that sermon. There's three phases of biblical grieving.

I pay attention to it. I live in the confusing in between, and then I let the old birth

the new. And so we see in Job, for example, he goes through this enormous suffering and pain

and loss. And then he spends 35 chapters paying attention, feeling it profoundly before God and with himself.

He goes through depression, deep depression, suicidal thoughts, cursing the day of his birth, extended

misery.

He shouts at God.
