inveterate news hound and i follow the news and i follow the news about the news and uh in the latter

category there's the story the continuing story of the new head of CBS News,

a woman named Barry Weiss, whose previous experience was editing a sort of center-right newsletter called the free press,

not the free newspaper that used to circulate in l a

and i was on paper uh and she sold it for a hundred fifty million dollars for a

newsletter to paramount which owns cbs and it also installed her as head of cbs news at which place

there is a great deal of consternation about her.

That, of course, most famously, she spiked so far a story on 60 Minutes.

Still no word as to whether that story will ever surface.

But she's mainly concerned these days with trying to resuscitate the CBS Evening News,

the third-rated network newscast in a world where everybody's watching fewer network newscasts.

So there's a new anchor, Tony DeCopal.

Yes, I know how to pronounce his name.

And the initial idea was to have him travel around the country on his first week to, you know, talk to the people, find out what they think, and then put that on its news.

Of course, I was short-circuited by some developments in this country, most particularly in Minneapolis.

And so she's still coming up with new ideas.

But I have a suggestion.

You know, always trying to be helpful.

If you're trying to get more people to watch the CBS evening news,

you might want to take a look or listen to what's going on at the most successful evening newscast, the one on ABC.

Last year, I presented a edited version of that show, which counted 21 repetitions of the word tonight.
