There was a time when Cédric Eroux wouldn't have considered himself an activist.

He's a small scale olive farmer, or Bayesian, high up on a hill in the valley of La Roya

in the maritime Alps.

But that was before 2015, the year everywhere he turned, he started seeing migrants.

He saw them struggling up the mountain roads, looking for something to eat or somewhere

to sleep.

In my opinion, Bayesian must be responsible for his territory.

I must especially help La Roya valley because it's a public space.

The migrants were mostly from Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia.

They crossed over the border from Italy on foot, which was just a few kilometers away.

Cédric got to know some of them and found himself offering them shelter on his farm.

Soon hundreds of men, women and children, started showing up at his house.

Even if it's not very comfortable, everyone feels good here.

We don't ask questions about their past.

My main motivation is to integrate and recognize everything.

These are people, not migrants.

This principled view of migrants as individuals with rights would lead Cédric down a difficult

path.

He challenges neighbors, his fellow citizens and end up in court, defending the values

enshrined in the French Constitution.
