| 0:00.0 | My idiotic friend literally doesn't work for 10 years while he's getting his master's degree. And despite the fact that we've been begging him to do something to put on his resume, he claims that he will figure it all out once he's graduated. But unfortunately, now that he has graduated, he literally cannot find a job. And things have gotten so bad that he's now asking to move in with me and my husband. And at this point, I seriously don't know what to do. Here's what happened. So my husband and I have a friend that moved to another state to pursue a college degree using his savings. This friend is always calling us and talking to us and asking for our advice, but rarely, if ever, puts it to use. We've come to the conclusion that it's not so much that he wants our advice, but rather he's hoping that we will be supportive of his ideas. |
| 0:40.5 | We've been suggesting that he should have at least a part-time job while in school, so he wouldn't completely deplete his savings. |
| 0:46.4 | His response was that he wanted the full college experience and didn't think that having even a part-time job would allow for that. |
| 0:52.6 | Now, admittedly, I'm not empathetic here |
| 0:54.5 | because he was starting college in his 40s. I went straight out of high school and at times |
| 0:58.5 | worked three jobs to make ends meet. So the full college experience, in my honest opinion, |
| 1:03.2 | includes financially struggling while trying to have cheap fun, but I digress. Skip ahead |
| 1:07.6 | four years and he finished his bachelor's and decides that he wants to pursue a |
| 1:11.3 | master's degree and wanting to switch from cybersecurity from accounting. Now again, he asked my |
| 1:16.2 | husband and I for advice and I suggest that he get a full-time job and work on the advanced |
| 1:20.4 | degree part-time in the evenings, knowing full and well that he's pretty much depleted his |
| 1:24.6 | savings at this point. My husband points out that in IT and |
| 1:27.7 | cybersecurity, at least in the United States, that certifications are more important than degrees, |
| 1:32.5 | and it's cheaper to pursue. My husband also let him know of mentors to follow online that could |
| 1:37.7 | help get cheap or free vouchers to cover the cost of some of the certification exams to make it |
| 1:42.8 | even cheaper for him. My husband also suggests |
| 1:45.4 | that he get a full-time job. And if he doesn't want to use the accounting degree, then maybe try |
| 1:49.7 | getting an entry-level help desk job just to get the IT experience on his resume. Well, jump ahead |
| 1:55.0 | another four years. And our friend decided to pursue three master's-level degrees at the same |
| 1:59.9 | time, all instead of getting a job. |
| 2:02.0 | Two of the master's degrees are an IT and cybersecurity related, and the third is an MBA. |
| 2:07.0 | As he's finishing these degrees, my husband and I both asked if he was actively looking for a job |
