Lawrence is an award-winning journalist and author of three novels and 11 works of nonfiction.

He's won the Pulitzer Prize among many, many other literary awards. He's also a staff writer for

the New Yorker. And he is, without a doubt, one of our great writers and thinkers of today. His latest is the novel, Mr. Texas, which I tore through and loved, and it's getting terrific reviews everywhere you go. Lawrence, it's really an honor to have you in here with us today. Thanks for coming in. Well, I'm delighted to be here, Doug.

Thanks for having me. I am also thrilled with the cocktail selection today. I have heard of the Vesper Martini, but I've never actually had one. So I actually had to look it up to make sure I make it the right way. Well, you can't be a mixologist without going all the way to Vesper. All right. Well, it's on.

So I've got, we've got our ice and the shaker here.

So this is vodka. This was, I don't know if you ever had this kind. It's recommended by Dennis Lehane. So we're... All right, he would know. He would know. He's normally a Russian vodka guy, but I think he's protesting. so he has this Polish vodka that he recommends now.

Bar Hill gin. This is a gift from Chris Bojellian, if you know Chris. This is distilled in Vermont.

So listeners know it's vodka gin and Lilit Blonde. Just a bit of that yeah with a lemon twist so i'll work on this twist
