It was 2014 and Dr. Magali Blas, a trained medical epidemiologist, was on assignment deep

inside the Amazon Rainforest in Peru.

She was there to study healthcare in riverbound communities, and her work soon brought her in contact

with a woman named Judith.

Judith had given birth six times, but she had never seen a doctor or a midwife.

Her youngest daughter was delivered in a hut on the floor.

The last daughter of Judith weighed only 1200 grams and she was very small.
