Lancaster County, the best county in the Keystone State, Jim McTag, former Washington editor of Barron's Magazine, now a novelist in Lancaster County.

And we begin with Jim McTay goes to Washington,

a field trip to the Army Navy Club.

But at the same time,

his measure of the city as it changes under the three months,

not quite 100 days of the Trump administration, Doge,

springtime, the recovery from the pandemic, all in train. Jim, your impression of Washington in this

field trip here in early springtime. Were the streets empty? Were they filled? Were the

restaurants empty? Were they filled? What's the overall impression of the city? Good evening to you.

I was amazed at the lack of tourists.

There aren't a lot of people out for a walk.

I got to Washington after two and a half hours of white knuckle driving, have to go through Baltimore.

And I got out for a walk and I walked down to the White House.

And there were much fewer tourists than I remember seeing in the past. Generally, this is

Easter break. So you would see a lot of school kids in the past. This time of year, it's class trips.

So you would see busloads of students.

I saw one bus by Lafayette Park, which is the park in front of the White House.

And inside the park itself, there weren't that many tourists.

Most of them, I saw two noticeable groups of tourists.

There were foreigners, mostly speaking Spanish.
