Hello, Lakers Nation. Welcome in the Lakers Nation.com podcast. I'm Trevor Lane. Today we're going to go through a number of different Lakers questions that are going to allow me to pinball through a lot of topics. So a lot to get into on today's show, a bit of a mailbag episode. Make sure you do subscribe to the YouTube channel. Turn on those notifications as well. Don't forget to give us that five-star rating and review over on Apple Podcasts. Okay, let's dive in. So these questions are coming in from our channel members, threw it out there to channel members last night. It got some really interesting questions. A few repeats in here, a lot of questions about what the Lakers can do on the trade front. This question is saying, who are some realistic trade targets? I think neither

0:38.2

Herb Jones nor Keon Ellis will be traded to the Lakers this season. Well, there's a lot of

0:44.4

questions about that. Who can the Lakers realistically go after? And some of that right now is still

0:50.1

unknown. And I wish we had a solidified list of all of these players are all going to be

0:55.6

available for the Lakers. We can make some predictions, some projections, sometimes players that

1:00.3

we think will be on the market won't and vice versa. And so that's what makes it a little bit

1:04.5

difficult. But in general, what we want to do is take a look at the teams near the bottom of

1:09.0

the standings. Those are the teams that typically are willing to sell off talent. As we've seen in the past, we saw last year, the Lakers were able to make the Dorian Finney Smith trade with the Brooklyn Nets who were very, very willing to move off of veteran talent. So really, you're looking for those types of teams as well as teams who may be out on a certain player. And I know we've used the Andrew Wiggins example quite a bit,

1:30.6

but the Lakers,

1:31.8

one of the things that they have that they can offer teams is salary cap relief

1:35.8

because the Lakers have so many players that have expiring contracts.

1:39.8

And those would be their primary trade chips.

1:41.9

But these are players who don't necessarily have value on their own when I'm talking

1:46.1

about Gabe Vincent and Maxey Clebe.

1:47.8

Our teams hoping to get Gabe or Maxi to make a push to go win right now.

1:52.1

No, those aren't guys that are going to move the needle for anybody.

1:55.4

So those two guys don't have value other than as expiring salaries.

1:59.9

And the only way expiring salaries have value

2:01.8

is if you are trading them for a salary that does not expire. So an Andrew Wiggins, whose salary

2:07.2

does not expire, he gets paid $30 million next year. The Lakers do have some assets that could be

2:12.4

useful for a player like that. However, a player that's on an expiring contract, let's say it's Kobe White of the Chicago Bulls.

2:19.3

His contract also expires unless the Bulls decide they really don't want to be the team to pay

...
